Responsible gambling in Uganda
Uganda’s statutory minimum age for gambling is 25+. Meeting the age rule does not make gambling risk-free. A bet is entertainment with a real possibility of losing the entire stake; it is not income, credit or a way to repair debt.
Set the limit before the match
Separate a small entertainment budget from money needed for food, housing, transport, education, health and debt. Decide both a money limit and a time limit before opening an account. Treat the budget as fully spent once deposited and do not raise it after a loss.
Useful account controls can include:
- deposit and loss limits;
- session reminders and time-outs;
- marketing opt-outs;
- temporary or permanent self-exclusion.
Check which controls the exact operator provides before depositing. An international licence, a familiar brand or Mobile Money access does not replace the current Uganda licence check.
Warning signs
Stop and create distance if you are chasing losses, borrowing, hiding spending, missing obligations, betting under stress, increasing stakes to feel the same excitement or feeling unable to close the app. Remove payment shortcuts, mute promotions and tell someone you trust.
Do not try to recover losses with another deposit. Never pay an alleged agent an “unlock fee”, and never share a PIN, OTP or password.
When help is needed
Use the operator’s time-out or self-exclusion tools and remove saved payment methods. Seek local health support if gambling is causing debt, anxiety, family conflict or loss of control. If there is immediate risk of self-harm or harm to another person, use local emergency services without waiting for an account dispute to be resolved.
For a dispute involving a Uganda-licensed operator, keep the exact domain, account ID, transaction references, timestamps and support replies, then follow the operator complaint process and the NLGRB complaint guide.
